Proceeds from Sept. 1 event will be used to paint, maintain pedestrian bridge

Labor Day party-goers will once again have the opportunity to take in the spectacular views of the Western & Southern/WEBN fireworks display from the best vantage point on the Ohio River while also helping to paint and maintain the 147-year-old bridge, which now serves as pedestrian-only link between Newport and Cincinnati.

The Purple People Bridge Company announced that its “Boom on the Bridge” will return to the Purple People Bridge on Sunday, Sept. 1, from 6 to 10:30 p.m. on the Kentucky side of the bridge.

Tickets for the end-of-summer fireworks viewing party and fundraising event, which is open to the public, cost $125 per person for adults and teenagers, $50 for children aged 3 to 12, and no charge for children under the age of 3. Tables for 10 can be reserved for $1,200 a table.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.purplepeoplebridge.com/boomregistration.

Tickets are available at the $125 price until Friday, August 23. After August 23, ticket prices will increase to $150. After August 30, tickets will no longer be available.

Ticket purchases include beer and wine — two tickets per person for alcoholic beverages (and cash bar availability, too) — as well as soft drinks and water; unlimited grill-out food; live music before and after the fireworks by Model Behavior, a high-energy cover band featuring music from the 80s, 90s and today; and a free parking pass for every two tickets purchased. Attendees will be able to view the fireworks show while listening to the WEBN fireworks soundtrack on the southern end of the bridge.

“There’s no better place to view the fireworks than the Purple People Bridge,” said Jack Moreland, president of the Purple People Bridge Company and Southbank Partners. “It’s a fantastic event for our community and supports our efforts to maintain the bridge for years to come.”

Purple People Bridge Company is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates and maintains the bridge. Moreland said that 75 percent of the cost of the ticket to the event is tax-deductible.

The bridge company needs to raise more than $1 million to paint the bridge and all proceeds from the Boom on the Bridge event will go toward the capital campaign for that purpose, he said.

Moreland said sponsorships are available for companies, organizations, or families interested in supporting the bridge and our capital campaign.

Presenting Sponsors receive a reserved table for 12 people, 24 extra drink tickets, 6 parking passes and a corporate logo will be placed first on signs on the bridge before and during the event. The cost of a presenting sponsorship is $5,000.

Supporting sponsors will get a table for 10 people, 12 extra drink tickets, and their logo placed on all event signs on the bridge before and during the event. The cost of a supporting sponsorship is $2,500.

Table sponsors get a reserved table for 10 people, five parking passes and their names placed on the reserved table. The cost of a table sponsorship is $1,200.

Because the central portion of the bridge will be used during the fireworks display, the main section of the bridge will close at 8 a.m. on Sept. 1. The bridge’s Pagan’s Path will close to the public at 2 p.m.
